hmm, well deciding that I was going to give the idat 102 project a nice healthy start today, I decided last night, not to go out and ‘party the night away’, so that I could wake up all nice and refreshed, clear headed and get cracking with some code. This plan only kind of worked…
I did the silly thing of looking over the brief last night before I went to bed. Lo and behold I as up til 4 this morning, having scribbled down ideas for content, layout, features and functionality.
D’oh, so much for the early night! Not put off by the late night I woke at around 10-ish milled around for a while, and went back to my scribblings, refined them, and then decided to think about what aspects, of which code, would best suit my desired outcomes. I decided that I wasn’t properly clued-up on the ‘optimal’ approach, and having consulted w3c.com, I decided to go and see if Waterstones ahd the book that our lecturer recommended for JavaScript. I also thought I’d buy a book on CSS as well, so that I knew each’s strenghts and weeknesses.
Oh.
My.
God.
The book recommended (JavaScript- The Definative Guide) made my eyes bleed. One well aimed swipe with this book to someone’s head, would cleave it clean off. It’s HUGE! I decided I was too scared to read that one today, and instead, stuck with the CSS book I got (Cascading style sheets- The Designer’s Edge) which was to all intents and purposes quite informative. Although I think some of the referecing is wrong?!?!? I followed it well and it’s given me some more GUI ideas that I’d like to implement to the project.
Ho-hum, I’m gonna try and get some sleep now… may take the JavaScript book to read in bed…. Looks like the type of book that (depending on your current mood) will either knock you straight to sleep, or keep you engrossed for hours… I’m hoping on the fromer.
